Dollar Beard Night and Some More Fun Posts

I think we can all be in agreement that this Boston Red Sox team is fun.  They're fun to watch play, fun in interviews, fun on Twitter, etc.  I don't care what people say, having good team chemistry effects the way a team performs.  Look at the 2004 Boston Red Sox "Idiots."  They weren't the best team on paper, but they had the best chemistry and carried that into the post season and eventually brought home the World Series Trophy.

With this post, I thought I would show you some of the humor that the game of baseball, not necessarily the Boston Red Sox, has seen this season.  Whether it be t-shirts, interviews, the Harlem Shake, teams are having fun.  Maybe not so surprisingly, it's the teams that seem to be having the most fun that are succeeding on some level.

First, the Red Sox are having Dollar Beard Night at Fenway tonight.  That means, if you come to the ballpark tonight with a beard (real or fake), you can get into the game for a $1, as long as there are seats available.  How cool is that?  I'm not going to lie, but I kind of want to make a fake beard to watch the game at home tonight.  I know the game is going to be fun to watch, with the highlight potentially being the crowd.

The Yawkey Way Store is now selling #GetBeard t-shirts, which features all the beards from our favorite players that we've grown to know and love.  The t-shirts are Nike, made from cotton, and come in grey and red.  I'm a little disappointed that these weren't available last week when I was at the Yawkey Way Store because I want one.  Might need to order one before the trip to Baltimore...

Last night, my boyfriend wanted to watch the Cleveland Indians Harlem Shake video, which was released during Spring Training.  I thought MLB had taken it off YouTube, but it was there last night.  Seriously, if you haven't seen it (I've posted it already in this post), you need to check it out.

There are other MLB Harlem Shake videos, featuring the A's, Diamondbacks, Brewers, and Mets, which I've posted below:

Oakland A's

Arizona Diamondbacks

Milwaukee Brewers

New York Mets

While I'm posting funny videos, I think I have to post the one of Uehara's enthusiastic high-riving (watch out Victorino!), which has brought us #highfivecity.  While I'm going to post the video below, I think it's also important to note that Uehara gave up a run last night, ending his streak of retiring batters to 37.  But, he's still one of the best, if not the best, closers in the game today.  Here's the video:

Well, that's about it for me.  I'm in the process of updating the blog, adding new features, and adding more ways to follow Born Into It In Iowa.  Please, if you could pass the word on to people you feel would be interested in the blog, I'd appreciate it.  This is truly a passion for me, and I'd like to continue it for as long as possible.  Thank you again.

Red Sox vs Yankees September 14, 2013

The Red Sox completed the sweep of the New York Yankees this weekend behind some spectacular pitching (Lester on Saturday and Buchholz on Sunday), some great hitting (Salty's grand slam on Friday and Nava hitting .306 for the season), and some surprise base running (Salty stealing home on Sunday).  They are currently 9.5 games up from the Rays, and their Magic Number stands at 4.

Saturday, September 14th, I was able to attend my second Red Sox-Yankees game.  Not only was it just a week prior that I went to the first game (at Yankee Stadium, here's the post), but the game on Saturday was at Fenway Park.

The whole atmosphere at Fenway Park is different compared to Yankee Stadium.  While Yankee Stadium may have a well-known steak house, Fenway has Fenway Franks.  I know you may not think they compare, but when you go to Fenway Park, a Fenway Frank is the way to go.  Plus, Cole had to get a sausage from the sausage guy after the game (Rachael Ray recreated the recipe for these sausages on her show.  Here's the recipe).  Fenway Park food is iconic.

Besides the food, the fans seem to be more focused on the game at Fenway Park; or at least, that's my experience.  We saw in the bleachers at both games, but there were definitely more people in the bleachers at Fenway compared to Yankee Stadium.  The people were cheering for plays rather than yelling "(Insert opposing team here) sucks!".  Now, Red Sox fans do boo A-Rod mercilessly, but they cheer Mariano Rivera too.

Side note: if you didn't get to watch the Mariano Rivera ceremony last night, definitely check out the video here.

I am happy to report I purchased my Jonny Gomes t-shirt!

For those of you who don't know, Fenway Park is very special to me.  My great-grandfather played for the Red Sox from 1931-1932, and I grew up a Red Sox fan (as did every other member of my family).  Walking around Fenway Park and thinking that my great-grandfather could've walked the same path as me 80+ years ago literally sent chills down my spine.

This was my fourth time at Fenway Park.  I went to a game in 2005 against the Kansas City Royals, and two games in 2010 against the Cleveland Indians.  Now that I'm living in Connecticut, I'm sure I'll be going to many more games.

Speaking of going to more games, my boyfriend and I decided we're going to Baltimore on September 28th for the Red Sox-Orioles game that night.  We're both really excited about that, since neither one of us has been to Oriole Park at Camden Yards before.  So, in less than a month on the East Coast, I'll be going to 3 Red Sox games and experience 2 new ballparks.  Not bad.

Below, you will find pictures from Fenway Park on Saturday.

Twitter Friday

Welcome to the first Twitter Friday in two weeks.  I apologize for that; it's been super busy, as you may have noticed.  The Red Sox lost 4-3 last night to the Rays, and ended up going 5-2 on the road trip.  Considering the road trip consisted of playing the Yankees and Rays, that's pretty good.

As mentioned a few times, tomorrow I'll be going to the Red Sox-Yankees game at Fenway Park.  Since I've been asked more than a few times this week, this is NOT my first time at Fenway (I've been there 3 times previously).  The pitching match-up is Lester v. Sabathia, and I'm really psyched about that.  Make sure to check back on Monday for pictures and reactions from the game.

Now, on to the Tweets!
